Raspberry Pi configuration
1.Click on it to open the main menu
2.Go into preferences and click on Raspberry Pi configuration
a) password-set/change the password for the PI user
b) Host name- Name of Computer
c) Boot-you can choose here to boot like now to desktop or stop at CLI login prompt
Interface:
(a) SSH- used for secure remote command-line
access to a computer. It provides a secure encrypted connection over which you
can run commands, access files and manage the system remotely
(b) VNC-used for remote graphical desktop access. It allows us to interact with graphical desktop environment of a remote computer.
(c) SPI and I2C – used for GPIO pins
Localisation:
I. locale: select the interface language
II. Timezone: select current timezone
III. Keyboard: Adjust the keyboard configuration
IV. WiFi country : select current country to connect wireless network
Default Software installed in Pi
Programming:
- Geany : a text editor for developer (type geany in the terminal)
- Scratch: editor for graphical programming language
- Thonny Python IDE: Editor to write and run python code
Office:
- LibreOffice
Internet:
- Chromium web browser
- VNC Viewer: connect to another PC with this tool
Sound & Video
- VLC Media player
Remote Access Raspberry Pi
VNC Viewer is used for local computers and mobile devices you want to control from. A device such as a computer, tablet, or smart phone with VNC Viewer software installed can access and take control of a computer in another location.
VNC:
VNC is a tool to remote access a Raspberry Pi. But it does not work if the Raspberry Pi is on different network
1. Installation on Raspberry Pi
· sudo apt update
· sudo apt install realvnc-vnc-viewer
· Go to the Pi configuration tool, look for VNC under interface and enable it
apply changes by clicking on OK
· To connect Pi from remote system, need the Raspberry Pi address. It can be obtained from Pi by typing ifconfig in the terminal
2. To connect to your Raspberry Pi with remote computer(client)
· Raspberry Pi and the Remote computer are connected to the same network
· IP address of Raspberry Pi -(ifconfig)
· username and password for the Raspberry Pi
3. Download and install TigerVNC on the Client (remote system)
· launch TigerVNC viewer
· In the TigerVNC viewer, enter the IP address of the Pi
· click connect button to initiate a connection with remote desktop
· asks you to enter username and password to authenticate the VNC server installed on PI(username: pi password: raspberry)
XRDR- Remote access
1. Install XRDP on Raspberry Pi
2. sudo service xrdp start/stop/restart/status
3. on the client system(Windows), start Remote Desktop Connection from Start menu and fill the IP address
4.click on connect to get into XRDP login screen
5.sudo service xrdp stop
TEAMVIEWER-Remote Access
· it is software as similar to the VNC for remote desktop
· on Raspberry Pi, install teamviewer. Teamviewer is not available in linux downloaded links and it can be download by entering the following command in the terminal
wget https://download.teamviewer.com/download/linux/teamviewer-host_armhf.deb
· install the teamviewer by enter the command in the terminal
sudo dpkg -i teamviewer-host_armhf.deb
· sudo apt-get update
· sudo apt-get -f install
· sudo teamviewer setup
· sudo teamviewer passwd
