Aim:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā The aim of this paper is to explore the potential of Ethereum’s smart contracts in creating secure, transparent, and tamper-proof electronic voting systems. It examines the benefits, challenges, and feasibility of using Ethereum for e-voting, focusing on key issues like security, scalability, and regulatory compliance, and evaluates its potential to improve election processes.
Ā Abstract:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā This paper investigates the potential of Ethereum’s smart contracts for enhancing electronic voting (e-voting) systems, focusing on their ability to provide tamper-proof, transparent, and verifiable election results. Smart contracts, being self-executing programs on the Ethereum blockchain, automate voting procedures while ensuring accuracy and transparency. The paper delves into the advantages of using Ethereum for e-voting, addressing security and privacy concerns, and highlighting the potential benefits of this technology. It also explores challenges, such as scalability, interoperability, and regulatory hurdles that must be addressed to achieve broader adoption. Ethereum offers a promising solution for secure, transparent, and efficient political elections, presenting a valuable opportunity for governments and individuals globally to enhance democratic processes.
Existing System:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā This is the current voting system used in India. In this system vote is cast using electronics ballet. In this we cast our vote in an electronics machine. This is a group of some counter and registers. This voting system is quite easy, simple. It has advantage like mobility, secure, flexibility for election commission. But in today world all people are so much busy that they donāt have time to vote. This paper presents a perspective in the electronic voting process. That includes but not limited to identifying the polling process. The polling process the actual voting process used on the polling day.
Disadvantage
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā The problems of the existing manual system of voting include among others the following:
- Expensive and Time consuming: The process of collecting data and entering this data into the database takes too much time and is expensive to conduct, for example, time and money is spent in printing data capture forms, in preparing registration stations together with human resources, and there after advertising the days set for registration process including sensitizing voters on the need for registration, as well as time spent on entering this data to the database.
- Too much paper work: The process involves too much paper work and paper storage which is difficult as papers become bulky with the population size.
- Short time provided to view the voter register: This is a very big problem since not all people have free time during the given short period of time to check and update the voter register.
Proposed System:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Unlike traditional systems, a blockchain-based voting system securely stores votes on a decentralized network, ensuring data integrity. By using Ethereum’s blockchain, voters can cast ballots from any internet-enabled device, with personal data encrypted and recorded as a transaction across multiple nodes for validation. Once added, blocks cannot be altered, guaranteeing trustworthy results. This approach improves security, independence, and efficiency in the voting process.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā The proposed system is a Face Verified online voting system that integrates Face Verification with Blockchain Addresses. It identifies voters by their unique Blockchain Address to verify whether they are eligible to vote. This system allows verified voters to cast their ballots online. The polling continues until the voting period ends, after which the database on the server is updated. Face Verification, combined with the Blockchain Address, retrieves complete voter details and stores the votes on a blockchain server, ensuring transparency and trustworthiness.
Advantage
- Voter can cast their votes from anywhere in the country without visiting to voting booths, in highly secured way.
- This will increase the voting percentage in India and reduces the cost of voting process.
- By using Face Verification it provides enough security which reduces the false votes.
- The collection of the results is done from the stored data on the blocks through the significant organization of the nodes in the block chain.
