Aim:
The aim of this project is to develop a secure, transparent, and tamper-proof blockchain-based system for managing allografts throughout their entire lifecycle—from donor registration to tissue processing, storage, distribution, and transplantation. The system seeks to ensure authenticity, complete data provenance, regulatory compliance, and real-time traceability by leveraging decentralized ledgers, smart contracts, and digital tagging technologies. This helps enhance patient safety, reduce fraud, and build trust among medical institutions and regulatory authorities.
Abstract :
Allograft transplantation requires strict tracking of tissue origin, processing, storage, and distribution to ensure safety, ethical compliance, and authenticity. Traditionally, allograft data is stored in centralized systems that are vulnerable to manipulation, data loss, incomplete history, and lack of verifiable provenance. Ensuring transparency and trust across multiple stakeholders—donor agencies, tissue banks, medical centers, surgeons, and regulatory bodies—remains a major challenge.
This project proposes a blockchain-based system for managing allografts, designed to enhance data provenance, security, and traceability across the entire allograft lifecycle. Blockchain’s decentralized ledger ensures immutability, tamper-proof logging, and verifiable records, allowing stakeholders to track tissues from donation to transplantation. Smart contracts automate validation, authorization, and compliance checking, reducing human errors and improving operational efficiency. By integrating blockchain and secure APIs, the system ensures transparency, integrity, and real-time accessibility, ultimately enhancing patient safety and allograft regulatory compliance.
Proposed System:
The proposed solution uses blockchain technology to securely store and trace allograft data across the entire supply chain . Decentralized ledger to store donor information, processing steps, test results, storage conditions, and transplant data.Smart contracts to automate data validation, permissions, and rule enforcement.Role-based access control for donor centers, tissue banks, hospitals, surgeons, and regulators.mmutable transaction logs ensuring complete provenance from donor to recipient.APIs to integrate with existing medical information systems.
Advantages:
- Data Immutability: Records cannot be altered or deleted.
- End-to-End Traceability: Complete tracking from donor to recipient.
- Enhanced Transparency: Every action is recorded on the blockchain.
- Reduced Fraud & Errors: Tamper-proof logging prevents manipulation.
- Automated Compliance: Smart contracts enforce rules automatically.
- Interoperability: Integration with hospitals and tissue banks.
- Quick Audits: Real-time data validation and reporting.
- Improved Patient Safety: Ensures authenticity and quality of allografts.
