Aim:
The main aim of this project is to design and develop a metering and monitoring system for Water and Energy usage.
Introduction:
In the context of smart cities in India, the efficient management of household water and energy consumption is imperative. Conventional meter reading methods prove costly and time-consuming, leading to customer dissatisfaction. This article proposes a solution—a wireless smart energy and water metering system employing smart metering technology. Replacing mechanical water meters and digital energy meters, this integrated system enables automatic meter readings, transforming utility management. Long Range (LORA) Radio, the system ensures real-time, secure data transmission on water and energy consumption. Featuring a water flow sensor, the system’s interoperable design is achieved through trial-and-error methods, addressing traditional system gaps and enhancing user and utility engagement.
Proposed Work :
The proposed system integrates water and energy monitoring into a unified metering solution, designed for smart city infrastructure. Using LoRa (Long Range) Radio technology, the system enables wireless data transmission between the transmitter (powered by an ESP8266) and the receiver (controlled by an Arduino Nano). The transmitter collects data from an AC voltage sensor and AC current sensor to monitor energy usage and employs a water flow sensor to track water consumption. The ESP8266 wirelessly transmits this data via LoRa TX to the receiver, where it is processed by the Arduino Nano. The system features a solenoid valve controlled by a relay for water management and provides real-time feedback via an LCD display and buzzer alerts. The energy consumption is further tested with AC loads like bulbs, connected through relays. Additionally, the data is stored in Firebase Cloud, allowing users to remotely monitor water and energy usage. This real-time, cloud-enabled system offers a robust solution for optimizing utility consumption in smart cities, reducing the need for manual meter readings, and enhancing operational efficiency for both users and utility providers.
